Atchison County Release Meanings
A release entry means a particular Atchison County Jail booking ended. It does not always mean the person walked free. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, completion of a county term, and a judge’s order can lead to community release. A transfer to another county, transport on a warrant, commitment to the Kansas Department of Corrections, federal custody, a detainer, or a medical move can also end the local booking. The sheriff’s exact timestamp is strong proof of departure from that booking, but the release report or court order explains why it ended.
The agency that holds the next useful record depends on the event. The Atchison County Sheriff’s Office keeps the county booking and release material. District or municipal court records explain the case result. KDOC records cover a person sentenced to state custody. Kansas VINE reports county-jail custody changes and supports alerts. The federal Bureau of Prisons handles federal prison locator records. A search should follow the custody path, not assume that absence from one roster proves a full discharge.
- Release
- The end of one jail or prison custody event, whether by community exit or movement to another custodian.
- Discharge
- The end of the sentence or supervising agency’s legal authority, not just departure from a cell.
- Detainer
- A request or legal hold that may cause another agency to take custody when the local booking ends.
- Time served
- A court result crediting custody already completed toward the custodial part of a sentence.
Atchison County Release Types
The words used in a roster, court order, and corrections file are not interchangeable. A bond amount on an ended booking does not prove bond caused the release. Likewise, a release date cannot prove dismissal, acquittal, or sentence completion without the case record. These common outcomes point toward different records.
| Type or event | What it means | Where to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | The person leaves jail while the case remains pending. | Release report and court docket |
| Time served or sentence complete | The jail term ended, though other duties may remain. | Judgment, sentencing entry, and release record |
| Probation | The court orders community supervision instead of or after custody. | District Court, Court Services, or Community Corrections |
| Parole or postrelease | The person leaves state prison but remains under KDOC supervision. | KASPER status and supervision office |
| Transfer or detainer | The Atchison booking ends while another custodian takes control. | Movement record and receiving agency |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The court ends the charge without a conviction. | Official court disposition |
A deceased or medical movement should never be assumed from roster absence. When the displayed fields do not state the event, request the official record and avoid speculation.
Atchison County Release Record Fields
The public Atchison County sheriff Released roster is a booking-level record. It identifies the person within that booking and shows the moment the booking ended. A formal jail file may contain more, including a booking sheet, jail register, release authorization, bond receipt, property record, or movement entry. The court separately keeps the order that supplied legal authority.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Displayed name and photograph | Identity tied to the booking, subject to careful matching |
| Booking number | The local identifier used to narrow a record request |
| Age | A secondary identity check, not a unique identifier |
| Booking date and time | When the listed jail episode began |
| Release date and time | When that booking ended |
| Charges and bond | Booking context, not final disposition or proof of how release occurred |
| Profile link | More booking details that may include arresting agency and identity fields |
The public card has no field expressly naming the release reason, destination, releasing authority, property return, surety, or supervising office. Those omissions matter. A request for the release or movement record can seek each missing fact.
The official Released view shows the filter, sort controls, image, and timestamp fields used for the first check.
The captured interface illustrates discovery fields, not a permanent archive or a certified account of the release reason.
Request Atchison County Release Records
When the public entry is gone, unclear, or incomplete, use the sheriff’s open-records channel. A narrow request is easier to identify than a demand for every inmate document. Name the person, approximate booking and release dates, and booking number if known. Ask for electronic copies and an itemized estimate before work begins.
- Open the sheriff’s KORA request form and provide the requester contact fields it requires.
- Describe the booking with the name, date range, booking number, and case number if available.
- Ask for the booking sheet, release date and time, release reason or movement type, releasing authority, destination, and booking photograph.
- Request electronic delivery and advance authorization for any fee. The sheriff form publishes no flat price.
- Keep the response with the court order when proof of both physical departure and legal outcome is needed.
Kansas law requires agency action as soon as possible and by the end of the third business day. That is a response deadline, not a promise that production will be complete in three days. If more time is needed, the custodian should explain the delay and provide the earliest availability date. K.S.A. 45-219 limits charges to actual production cost and permits an estimate or advance payment.
The official sheriff request screen shows the descriptive fields, fee authorization notice, and K.S.A. 45-230 acknowledgment.
Those fields support a focused release request and help the records custodian locate the right booking without an overbroad search.
Atchison County Bond Release Process
Atchison publishes concrete instructions for arriving to post bond. The sheriff’s bond information says to call the jail first, identify the person, and state the expected arrival time. Visitors use the main Sheriff’s Office entrance and seek help at the control-tower window. Cash bond requires the exact amount because the jail makes no change. A bondsman must be approved by District Court.
These details identify the transaction point. They do not establish a fixed release time, processing duration, or exit door. Nor does a bond line on a Released card prove that bond was posted. The court docket, bond receipt, and jail release record are the records that connect payment or recognizance to the booking’s end.
Atchison County Release Record Law
The Kansas Open Records Act begins with access but contains exceptions. K.S.A. 45-218 governs inspection and response mechanics. K.S.A. 45-219 addresses costs, while K.S.A. 45-221 lists permitted withholding grounds and public correctional data. K.S.A. 45-230 restricts specified commercial use of lists of names and addresses, which explains the acknowledgment on the sheriff form.
Record access is not absolute. Juvenile, medical, victim-identifying, security, sealed, expunged, and some investigative material may be withheld or redacted under applicable law.
The sheriff does not promise how long released bookings remain online. KDOC takes a different approach: KASPER retains covered discharged records dating to 1980, unless a conviction is overturned, expunged, or executive clemency is granted. Court dockets can also outlast the jail display. Online retention and legal record retention are separate questions.
Expunged Atchison County Release Records
Kansas’s expungement clock for many eligible lower-level offenses runs from satisfying the sentence or discharge from probation, community corrections, parole, postrelease, conditional release, or a suspended sentence. It does not necessarily begin on the county jail release date. K.S.A. 21-6614 controls eligibility, timing, exclusions, procedure, and later disclosure.
After an expungement, custodians generally may not disclose related arrest, conviction, diversion, and incarceration records except in the circumstances listed by law. A vanished older booking or photograph may therefore reflect lawful record treatment, not a broken search. It also does not prove that the underlying event never occurred. Current forms are published by the Kansas Judicial Council, while the court clerk can address filing procedure.
Find Atchison County Released Inmates
Start with the source tied to the custody event. For a local booking, use Released rather than Current. For a state sentence, use KASPER. For a federal sentence, use the BOP locator. A no-result in the wrong system says little. The booking number, case number, court, and arresting agency help connect records across systems.
- Search the sheriff’s Released view by first or last name and sort newest first for a recent event.
- Match the booking number, age, photograph, booking time, charges, and release time. Do not infer the destination.
- Check the correct court docket for bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, probation, or a transfer order.
- Use KASPER when the record points to KDOC, or BOP when facts point to federal prison custody.
- Use Kansas VINE for county-jail status or notice, then return to the sheriff or court for documentary proof.
- Call the jail and file a focused KORA request if an entry is missing, old, or contradictory.
Why is the person off Current? A completed booking moves off the current roster, but the person may be released, transferred, or held by another agency.
For a short rolling view, the Atchison County 24-Hour Release List explains how to compare exact sheriff timestamps with a local cutoff. State supervision should instead be confirmed through KASPER and the office named in the record.
Atchison County Recent Release Search
Atchison has a real Released filter, which is more reliable than treating a disappearance as release. The page sorts by release time and accepts first- or last-name searches. Yet the sheriff does not label it as a fixed 24-hour or 72-hour list. No refresh schedule, rolling window, or retention promise is published.
To form a time-limited result, note the current Atchison time, subtract the desired period, and include only records whose exact release timestamps meet that cutoff. For an exhaustive date range, request the jail release log with precise start and end times. The visible feed can change, and the sheriff describes web material as convenience information rather than a certified record.
The roster landing screen displays the Current and Released choices that separate live custody from ended bookings.
Choosing the correct tab prevents a common error: searching only the live roster for someone whose Atchison County booking has already ended.
Atchison Releases Across Custody Systems
The 74-bed Atchison County Jail houses adult local, state, and federal detainees at several stages of the criminal process. It does not house juveniles. That mixed population makes a roster exit ambiguous. Someone may leave the Atchison booking yet remain confined after transport to a receiving county, KDOC intake, or federal custody.
Read the charge and warrant context, then follow the receiving system. A sentence to KDOC calls for KASPER after intake processing. An out-of-county warrant calls for the receiving county. Federal facts may point to the federal docket, U.S. Marshals records, or BOP. The release or movement record is the best way to identify which path applies.
KASPER Atchison Release Record Search
The Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository, known as KASPER, covers people sentenced to the Secretary of Corrections since 1980 who are incarcerated, under post-incarceration supervision, or discharged. It does not include a routine county-only jail booking that never became a KDOC sentence. KDOC also excludes interstate-compact prisoners sent to Kansas.
Accept the KASPER disclaimer, search by exact name or KDOC number, and compare identity plus conviction county and case. Then read status, location, movement history, supervision office, sentence details, and the official “Anticipated release date” field. A supervision status means prison custody ended while the sentence continues. “Discharged” marks the end of KDOC supervision.
| Search or result field | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Name or KDOC number | Find a likely state record | Names can collide |
| Birth and physical details | Confirm identity | Use only what is needed |
| Conviction county and case | Connect a state record to Atchison | Not a home or release county |
| Status and location | Distinguish prison, supervision, and discharge | Updated on working days |
| Anticipated release date | Shows the current projected date | Not proof of completed release |
| Movement history | Tracks custody location changes | May lag a recent intake |
KASPER updates daily except weekends, described elsewhere by KDOC as each working day. A weekend transfer may not appear at once. The KDOC locating explanation documents the fields and update schedule.
This official field list helps distinguish an anticipated date from an actual release, supervision status, or final state discharge.
Which Atchison Release Court?
Atchison has two distinct court custodians. The City of Atchison Municipal Court handles city-ordinance matters and warns that city and county tickets belong to different organizations. A Released card that identifies a municipal warrant should lead to Municipal Court. Kansas criminal cases belong in Atchison County District Court within the First Judicial District.
The district docket can show bond changes, dismissal, plea, judgment, sentencing, probation, revocation, and discharge-related entries. The jail timestamp supplies the physical exit time, while the journal entry or order explains the legal result. Public case information and downloadable documents are not the same. A document missing remotely may be available from the courthouse unless sealed, expunged, juvenile, or otherwise restricted.
The Kansas Courts access explanation shows the difference between portal information, courthouse access, and unavailable record types.
That distinction explains why a useful case entry may still require a clerk request even after the jail web card disappears.
Atchison Release Alerts and Supervision
Kansas VINE is the county-jail notification channel. It can search a person in a participating jail and register for future custody changes. It does not cover KDOC state-prison residents. An out-of-custody result confirms the reporting jail’s change, not the court disposition or freedom from every other hold.
KDOC Victim Services has a separate notification process for state custody. KASPER can show a parole or postrelease supervision office after prison release. Local probation has two more lanes: Atchison County Community Corrections and District Court Court Services. Conviction county does not prove where a person lives or will report after release.
The KBI registered-offender search applies only to persons with a legal registration duty. It is not a general released-inmate list and cannot prove the date or reason a jail booking ended.
Federal and ICE Atchison Releases
Atchison County has no identified federal prison or ICE detention center, though the county jail says it holds federal detainees. A federal detainee’s roster exit may mean transport, court, BOP designation, another contract jail, or community release. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates released after 1982 and can show a release date or status. “In transit” is not release, and a person shown as released may still have federal supervision.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator includes certain people released from ICE custody during the past 60 days. It requires exact biographical details or an A-number, can omit records for safety reasons, and may lag. No Atchison ICE contract was found. Use ICE channels only when the facts point to immigration custody, and never translate release from ICE detention into an assumed return to Atchison.
The U.S. Marshals Service has no comparable public historical release locator. A narrow FOIA request can seek custody, release, or transfer records when USMS was the custodian. The federal court docket can also supply the judgment and later release-related orders.
The official BOP locator illustrates federal identifier and name search routes plus released or not-in-custody result fields.
The federal interface belongs only in a factually federal path and does not replace the sheriff’s county release record.
Atchison Release Records by Status
Matching the record system to the custodian prevents false no-result conclusions. Each source answers a narrower question, and several may be correct at the same time.
| Situation | Best first source | What it can establish |
|---|---|---|
| Still in Atchison jail custody | Sheriff Current roster | Current local booking status |
| Ended Atchison jail booking | Sheriff Released view | Exact booking exit timestamp |
| Old or ambiguous county release | Sheriff KORA request and court | Movement reason and legal outcome |
| KDOC prison or supervision | KASPER | State status, location, date, and office |
| Federal prison history | BOP and federal docket | Federal custody or release record |
| County-jail alert | Kansas VINE | Custody change and notification |
Conflicts should be reconciled, not averaged. Preserve the booking number and timestamp, call the custodian, and request the record. A weekend KASPER delay can coexist with a court order to KDOC. A sheriff release and later KDOC supervision can both be accurate because they describe different stages.
Atchison County Release Facility
Atchison County has one identified local adult detention facility: Atchison County Jail, operated by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office. It is at 518 Parallel Street, Atchison, KS 66002. The Office and Jail number, 913-804-6080, operates around the clock; published administrative hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Those office hours are not a release schedule.
A community release may appear in the sheriff’s Released view and Kansas VINE. A transfer or commitment to KDOC is not a community release and should be followed in KASPER. Out-of-county warrants and federal movements require the receiving agency. No separate municipal jail, state prison, federal prison, or dedicated ICE center was identified inside the county.
